Family Mediation – What it involves

distanced family
Our mediator is Susie Ross, who has trained and qualified as a family mediator with the ADR Group. She also has over twenty years experience as a family law solicitor, during which she has often been able to help her clients to reach settlements.

Initially each partner meets Susie, usually separately, so she can explain what mediation entails and to ensure mediation is appropriate for you. If both wish to proceed, the mediation meetings will then be set up with Susie. Experience shows that this usually involves between three to eight sessions.

Presuming agreement is reached in principle, then Susie will draft the appropriate documents setting out the heads of agreement and the basic facts and financial information on which it is based. Each party then goes to see their own solicitor, who can advise them on their provisional agreement and who will prepare documents for a consent court order – this can be very important because it ensures that the agreement is binding.

Our costs for this are £75 per person per hour for meetings and drafting agreement documents. Currently the initial intake meeting is free.
